Moving to a new city & I'm not familiar with the neighborhoods. I'm searching for a place to rent now, in a city with heavy crime areas. I'm hoping there's an app or map where I can paste an address into the search bar, and the map will show me the name of the neighborhood it's in, or even just the crime rates or even a simple crime rating will do.
So far all I have found is maps that show crime rates by color coding, but I have no idea where the property is that I'm looking for information on, on that map.
Basically any way to make this process of searching more efficient and faster.
Try spotcrime dot com where you can enter a zip code, city or street/city which will display a map with symbols indicating recent crimes. A bottom left option to ‘view crime’ will present high level info. Click on a row and more info is presented. As best I can tell, it seems only two weeks of data is available.
I use "Neighborhood Scout". In addition to the color coded maps (which I personally find useless), they have a listing of the 10 safest neighborhoods in your chosen city.
Something else I would suggest that I have always checked is checking with the state investigation unit, here it is KBI (Kansas Bureau of Investigation), and I believe all states have this. I can put in our street address and see within 1 mile (or greater, just not less) a list of people, their crimes and a map denoting by color (violent, sexual, drug) about how close they live to our house. I have done this each time we moved. Something to think about.
I don't trust places that "rate" or "rank" crimes because different jurisdictions use different methods of reporting. I prefer to see actual crimes listed in such and such time frame, usually represented as icons that you can click on to get more information.
For example when I moved I saw a n'hood that had an unusual number of assaults, looking closer it was a location that had quite a few bars, the assaults' were bar fights, not a thing I would worry about since I don't frequent bars!

In contrary to the map I posted above where you can click on each color coded dot for detailed description
The link you posted shows only Knoxville and a small susburb of Nashville in my state.
My link shows me only around a dozen TX cities, of which only Fort Worth is of any size.
I wonder how it's determined which law enforcement agencies are covered by which crime mapping sites?
Perhaps OP can contact the Agency of the city s/he's interested in and find which crime mapping site they are affiliated with.
