You can still match her on her maternal side as she said. If she is your full 1st cousin (about 12% shared DNA) her mother could be your father's sister. With maternal haplogroups not matching, it means her mother can't be your mother's sister. But any other combination is possible.
With 12% shared DNA, other possibilities are that she could be your half aunt or half niece, depending on your dates of birth, etc. If she's a younger generation than you, she could be the child of a half sibling of yours.
It should be obvious if you have Relatives in common you've already identified, which side of yours, and which side of hers, you're related on.
