I read up on the anti-American sentiment (till recently) towards bidets. It began because they were associated with brothels during the wars. They were actually forcibly removed from a few hotels due to public outcry back in the day.
Yet another legacy of our Puritanical history.
Bidet was the first birth control in Europe under the pretense of washing up due to religion
Do yourself a favor, if you are facing open heart surgery later (or even earlier) in life add a bidet to your toilet before you get cut! I bought one on amazon for about $30 and it was easy to install.
I used a bidet for the first time when I went backpacking. I also carried TP. The bidet really just meant I used less TP. Since you're backpacking and it's pack it in/pack it out, the idea of not carrying "s--- tickets" for several days until the next resupply/garbage dump was definitely appealing. A Costco pack of the stuff costs like $25 bucks though. I bought some before I moved which was 15 months ago. Seems like a silly thing to worry about saving money on considering I spend less than $25 a year on it.
