Can't help but ask---all of you who thought Texas was the glory land and just had to move, how are you loving your summer? Are you just loving the outdoors? Are you a wee bit nervous when the storms hit, realizing when the power glitches that it can almost be deadly with no electricity and hence no AC?

It's actually pretty easy to beat the heat when just about everywhere you go is air conditioned.

Yes that's how we lived for 20+ years---in the air conditioning. At some point you realize it sucks. And other areas of the country actually have a summer where you can and WANT to go outside.

And it's important to remember that the left wants to do away with A/C to save the planet, or whatever. That would make many places uninhabitable. At least for me, lol.

But those places mostly have horrible, cold winters. No thanks. Or it's San Diego where a dog house costs $2M.

This.

We relocated to NH from CA in 2008. Winters were fine at first but we're not getting any younger and hot weather doesn't affect arthritis negatively. Factor in that heating costs doubled last year (not just electricity, every form of heat fuel) and that we lost power at least three times this past winter (and not just for a few hours), we've stopped "just thinking about it" and are actively looking to relocate. The Fort Worth area right now because of a possible job.

I'm not a big fan of super hot summers but if you stay hydrated and in the shade, it's survivable. Try toughing it out in -17 F without any heat. That's the temperature it was one night last winter at 2 am when I was out trying to refill my generator with gas.

Yes, and NH is one of those places. But "summer" lasts maybe two months if you're lucky. In exchange for a very pleasant few months, you get a six-month severe winter. And not a "couple of inches of snow every now and then" winter. We regularly get over two feet dumped on us at once. Over and over again. For months. And ice storms that drop tree branches that break power lines and then the real fun starts. I'll take a TX summer over a NH winter. Didn't used to feel that way, but age and costs to stay warm for over six months a year adds up. Oh, that's right, the "other" months that aren't winter or summer are half winter/half spring or fall. Which could mean pleasant weather one day, a foot of snow the next. And, to top it all off, don't forget the wonderful "mud season" we have when all the snow melts and turns every dirt road and track into mud. Yay.

The grass is always greener, true, but I'm in the mood to swap grass.

Oh hell no. I would DIE in that kind of cold. When we had the snowmageddon in 2021, that was the coldest temperature I had ever been exposed to, and I seriously hated it. My bones hurt because I was so cold. I cannot imagine NH kind of cold. And then you have to actually leave the house, and shovel/blow the snow. Nope. I will take the hot summers any day over that!!!

And take out the trash, and walk the dog, and go grocery shopping and run errands, and stand outside with the kids waiting for the school bus, and commute to work, and . . . Yeah, it gets to you.
