Hilarious. Based on the quoted below, I personally fit this description to a Tee...as do many of my personal friends and acquaintances which leads me to strongly believe you ARE the company you keep. Be VERY discerning.

I studied public health in Florida back in the day. I think a dilemma facing older moderate "conservatives" in my age group of Generation X is that their daughters are dealing with horrible access to "ob/gyn" for specialized care. That set of specialists has largely left "conservative" regions due to the stringent changes to healthcare regulations on prenatal health. The regulations cause massive restrictions and potential for criminal arrest, loss of license, etc. from the side of the government. On the side of the patient, the specialist is at risk for higher malpractice due to restrictions in the "gray area" and the simple fact that there aren't enough of them to go around. If the number of such specialists becomes very small, it becomes more likely for them to make mistakes with such a massive base of patients that far exceed a normal load.

This means prenatal care is higher risk these days. A patient may have to drive a very long distance to find obstetric care which becomes "rationed." Moreover, the odds are that a "strict conservative" parent of Generation X has somewhat moderate-to-liberal daughters who are now facing this health care crisis of access to specialists while in pregnancy. I would bet this situation is a factor in the "undertow" of Republicans who are leaving. Ironically, they may wind up in more liberal areas precisely because of this reason.

But don't take my word for it. Readers can ask women trying to find an "ob/gyn" for prenatal care. It's not easy these days as I understand it.

Ob/gyns have been getting out of the ob part due to crazy malpractice rates for decades. The current environment sure isnt helping things though.

I've been a resident of Palm Beach Gardens for over 12 years and we are in the process of moving as well. We are headed back to California. The Democrats in Florida are leaving in droves, and I am one of them. The MAGA's have taken over and it's impossible to do business in a state that is filled to the brim with insane people.

It's absolutely disgusting what the local politicians have done to this state. If you are interested in living in Gilead, well Florida is be your new stomping ground. Even my normal Republican friends (normies) have been fleeing the state. You cannot do business with people who do not live in reality. It's that simple.

And of course, we can't forget about the Trumpers - gangs of them, and most are quite aggressive and vulgar - but gosh, they have Jesus in their hearts though....so that must make it okay, right?

How can you teach a student what they need to know if they have aspirations of attending medical school or any other type of science profession when half the science book is blacked out or discontinued completely? The doctors are fleeing as well and so are the nurses, PA's, etc..

Want to take a book out of the library? Better check to see if it's 'religious' enough for the county. Can't have any woman thinking for herself, IYKWIM. I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was living in Amish country. Actually it's worse, the Amish have more freedoms than Floridians do!

If you enjoy overpaying for your home, having uneducated men decide your life path, if you enjoy super misogynistic men with guns slung over their fat sweaty bellies while they are wearing 'Trump is the TRUE God' shirts, have at it - you can have this state! That's if you don't mind paying 40K a year for property insurance, 20 grand or more for property taxes, the absolute WORST physicians in the world (docs literally continue to practice after being sued several times (they pay them off before the charges hit their medical license), practicing without a valid license, and generally just not caring about anyone - this is your place! Many teachers haven't graduated college - some haven't finished high school (true story) and the ocean is so hot it's dangerous to swim in the water because of the Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae).

But it's Florida! Everything is perfect, it's god's waiting room, right? Ha!

More like: Welcome to the GUNSHINE state!
Buh-bye!

Well, if you feel that way ( and you ARE entitled to your OPINION of course), then it's best for all concerned that you move to where you believe you will be happy. So I wish you a very bon voyage, and say you won't be missed one iota. Toodle-loo....

I have lived in Florida for over 47 years now, and can't say I recognize any part of your description of the state except as a wildly exaggerated and convoluted personal version of life in Florida, but geez, I'd leave too if what you describe was 0.1% of 1% of the reality of life here. Thank goodness it is not.

I've traveled all over the country and never experienced any of the over the top ridiculous stuff that gets pushed by the media on either side. I've gone from the middle of nowhere Arkansas, Alabama, SC, NC etc to San Fransisco, NY, Portland etc and never had any issues.

I definitely noticed some racial tension when I visited certain parts of the country, particularly during a recent visit to Cumberland County, TN. I wasn't treated badly at all, nor was there anything remotely close to what the media might portray, but it was quite apparent that many were thinking "what's he doing here, and when is he leaving?" kind of stuff. Heard a few mutters when I visited a popular bar one night. Again, nothing offensive, but stuff along the lines of "the blacks are visiting."

The media would have you think I should have been chased by confederate flag-bearing angry robed rebels holding rifles and shotguns in pickup trucks.

I'm White, & I've been discriminated against by other Whites to the extent of daily brawls.

Try moving from Brooklyn, to Detroit, to Birmingham Alabama as a 12 year old in the early 1970's.

Thank God my Brother & I were big kids for our age, & were street tested.

Back on topic...most Republican leaving FLA are 80+'ers like my Dad who want to be closer to family who can help care for them. Ileft FLA twice for career opportunities, but returned years later.
