I've been absent from the forum for some time, mainly because it's so easy to get drawn into long debates and due to a back condition I've had to limit my time sitting at the desk to essentials.

For anyone wondering, I haven't forgotten about this issue, but for what might be termed logistical reasons (I'll leave you to guess what they might be) I've postponed sending the inquiry for a while. I will get to it, but probably later this year.

Smile Believe in following rules…however

I believe in following rules. When I moved to Bella Vista in 2006 I went through the proper channels to get my white picket fence. This had to be approved by the ACC and it was. If you want to have a fence in Bella Vista you have to have an APPROVED DECORATIVE fence FRONT. The sides and back can be chain link, but the FRONT has to be decorative. Imagine my shock when I was notified, not personally but through a notice in my water bill, that I had to either paint my fence or tear it down! I went to ask about it and was told I had been under a grandfather clause, but that clause was being removed. That meant I had to paint or tear down my fence, which had been approved by this same commission. Ridiculous! I asked if they were paying for the paint or new fence and was boldly told no. However, they would waive the the cost of paying for the PERMIT for painting my fence.
Someone said in the forum that a picket fence was useless. That is NOT true. I wanted a fence because I have dogs. I had to have a decorative fence because of the rules. I chose a white picket fence. The fence keeps my dogs in and predators out. That’s useful.

Yeah, the authoritarianism displayed by HOA's and POA' (especially in Bella Vista) has been a long term topic, here, and there isn't much that can be done about it. (Except move.)

Most materials, exposed to the elements, will eventually need painting anyway. May as well make the best of it. Do they specify what colors are allowed? (I am thinking something similar to Mossy Oak.)
