If you see rentals under 500 I personally would think they are quite poor and/or if off craigslist dont believe it. While Fargo is cheaper than other ND cities, housing in the area is typically more expensive than other locations in the southern US. I live in Grand Forks and if you want a newer 1 BR it is 800-925/mo.
Ummm, it's North Dakota. Do you really need another reason?
actually people are usually surprised at how expensive it is. Try getting a newer single family house for under 250K in most larger cities...not easy to do. But Fargo due to more competition is a bit cheaper than Bismarck, Minot and Grand Forks. I know in GF a new 3BR/2BA 2200 sq ft home in 300s in south GF, a more like 280K in EGF MN and the north end of GF.

And there are a mostly studios and they can work for some. Most of those do go pretty fast. And Fargo does have a higher percentage of those than other ND cities due to population/size.
How is the scene for younger people in Fargo? Meaning folks in their 20s and 30s who are single.
Better than anywhere else in ND by a substantial margin. Still not going to be Twin Cities level (which I think is not that that super for people in 20s/30s either) due to relatively small size, but there's enough stuff IMO as long as you're not too picky. Depends what you're looking for really.
