I lived on the East side of Anchorage during most of the 80's and 90's. I remember a few times where the temp dropped to minus 35 at my house.

Well, the weather guessers got the predicted low temps wrong. We've had a degree all night here in Anchortown. The good news according to our thermometer is that it is only going up!

Lucky you! It was -30 this morning, but it should be warmer soon, and then drop again. Too early in the season for the temperature to remain around zero near Fairbanks. It usually gets colder by Delta Junction, and the Tanana Flats (not far from Fairbanks) as well. The wind blows like crazy in Delta Junction, which makes winters quite tough to handle.

It has been very cold around Bethel, too:

Fluorescent lights don't work when it gets so cold. I had to replace one night light at one end of the house. LED solved that problem for about two years (it didn't last as long as advertised).

Nice (I like it), but the roads will be slippery.

Could be worst, I guess. I remember calling time off from work because it didn't want to drive when it was 60-65 below. It was in the early '90s.
