We are a small family moving to Oakridge either next year of late this year and I am a little worried about safety. I know it’s a smaller town and we actually spent our honeymoon in a cabin near the reservoir. We didn’t get to stop into stores or really wake around since we were mostly in the secluded cabin or in Eugene. How safe would you say it is for a small family with children? I read a post about tweaked stealing mail a couple years back. Has this gotten better or worse? Thanks.

Safe enough, but the place has gotten sketchier in recent years as the riffraff are priced out of Eugene. They're still stealing mail, but that seems epidemic in this state anymore.

We bought our house in Oakridge in 1986. I retired from Oregon Fish and Wildlife 1n 2011 and we have lived in Oakridge since then. We have never had a problem on Hansen st, but I know there are some riffraff around here. I think you would be safe, but that's just from my own experience. Good luck on your choice!

I don't know if the OP is still checking back, but ...

Don't count on water recreation at Lookout Point, the water level of which is set to be drastically lowered in the summers due to a court injunction in favor of efforts to support salmonid breeding and population recovery.

Dexter Reservoir wasn't mentioned in the article, but I would be concerned about that too.
