In Harry Leon Wilson's book The Speders, there's a character named Psyche. Her parents liked the way the name looked, but had never heard it pronounced, so they called her Pish.

I love the name Dick Francis picked for a detective in one of his books and described thus: "...Frost by name and cool by nature..."

My favorite character name is easily Sookie Houseboat from the British comedy show Toast of London (seen on Netflix in the U.S.)
Actually, Sookie Houseboat wasn't really a character, but a picture on the wall at Toast's agent's office. There were quite a number of eccentrically named photos on the agent's wall, and nearly all recurring and one-off characters had common-word surnames: Toast, Purchase, Fandango, and Plough (pronounced Pluff, akin to Hyacinth Bucket).

Another universe filled with interesting and meaningful names is the Harry Potter universe. Lavender Brown, Lucius Malfoy, Severus Snape, etc.

I am also old enough to remember the Farkle Family from Laugh-In. Fannie Farkle, Fred Farkle, and of course neighbor Ferd Ferkle.
