Double whammy and no easy business solution for it. They are fooked.

Even Bob Lutz showed why that's false, way back with idiots were saying it about the Volt.

Let me put it to you this way: The Bolt's battery pack costs about $8k to GM (65 kWh at the current rate of about $130 per kWh):

When they sell it at $25-30k, you're trying to say the REST of the car costs vastly more to make than a similar sized compact hatchback or a Trax? Puhleeze.

The Bolt doesn't cost a great deal more than a Chevy Trax to produce. The electronic aspects of the car make up around $10,000 of the production costs (battery, controller, etc), and Lutz suggests another $1,000 in labor costs, for 20 hours assembly on the line.

With a dealer net price of around $30,000, that leaves as much as $20,000 to produce the rest of the car (minus an engine) about what a Chevy Trax retails for. If the rest of the car cost that much to build then Chevy would be losing money hand over fist on the Trax too--which isn't the case.

With the $4000 tax credit on used ones, you can actually get them for closer to $12k out the door with most of it's 100k mile warranty intact, making it a screaming deal for a 200hp hatchback that costs almost nothing to "fuel."

The Chinese are trying to. But american politicians would rather you be poor and like it rather than have an option for a more economical car. Walking or cycling doesn't work for a lot of Americans, especially in suburban or rural areas.

LOL @ Politicians wants us poor. SO tired of that conspiracy theory. Politicians do not want us poor, they all want a thriving America. Democrat AND Republicans. Insane to think otherwise. And no, they aren't good people and want us to thrive because they are good. No. The better the economy is, the more money they make, as well, with lobbying and insider trading and the other tools of the trade.

Yup. Poor people can't buy American cars brought to you by the Big Two (politicos don't like Tesla so it's the Big Two). They want you earning (taxes) and spending (taxes).
