A general dentist is going to be much slower at it than an Endodontist who does 10 root canal cases per day. How long do you want to sit in the chair? It’s fussy work, particularly with molars. A lot of general dentists refer the hard cases out because they make more money in that amount of time doing something else.
I have had one by my regular dentist, probably 1990 or so.
Its no big deal. I only had local and I fell asleep. The only hard part for me is keeping my mouth open wide. If they can use a bite block, that solves that problem.
My dentist performed all my root canals, but this varies by the dentist. I would trust his referral and go there. He knows his limitations at least. The two of them know each other through business. And dentistry is a business.
