I've had several, and it depends. If it's a crown simply to repair a tooth that has broken, I have seen as little as $800. If it involves a root canal, then I have seen it at about $1,600. Fortunately my dental insurance covers about half.

Yes, my insurance also covers 1/2. No root canal with this one.
About a year ago I had an old loose filling on a tooth replaced but by the time the tooth was prepped, decided a crown made better sense instead. The damage was mostly due to grinding, not active decay. No root canal, no pain, no infection, no complications. Seem to recall the total charge was about $900.
I just had one a couple months ago. Had to pay 1/2 the cost. $550 was my share.
