There is currently virtually an epidemic of romance scams. Victims are losing money and perhaps even their lives (not to mention a trail of broken hearts).
It is uncontrolled and scammers lurk to make their fortune with one of the most profitable scams today.
E.g. An Illinois widow was found dead hundreds of miles from home had been scammed out of $1.5 million by someone she met on a dating app — and had penned a chilling note predicting she “would end up dead” because of her secret “double life,” according to her family.
She believed to be in a relationship with a handsome Swedish businessman called 'Frank Borg'.
Borg's pictures belonged to a Chilean doctor (copied from the Internet) and his emails traced to Ghana.

People using dating apps should start to pay better attention to who they're actually dating and all those red flags. They should never send money or give financial info to people they never met in real life.
