Please don't bring politics into any topic on this forum. The Politics and Other Controversies forum is here. Do not respond to any political posts. Report them.

Very controversial topics should also be placed in the Politics and Other Controversies or another forum about them. No threads about gun laws, religion, gay marriage, abortion, unions, immigration, healthcare laws, minimum wage, taxes, etc. should be here.

It's time to revisit these guidelines as they are interpreted by moderators literally. Any topic that is being posted to the current events forum with the thinly veiled purpose of advancing ones belief structure will be treated the same. All opinions are welcome in this forum as long as they can be articulated in a way that stays with the topic of the event, and do not cause the thread to derail. Of course if you wish to discuss these more controversial topics without nuance you are always welcome to do so in the above linked "Politics and Other Controversies" forum.

There has been a surge of controversial and tragic news over the last several months. The push back I receive from forum membership is that these are CLEARLY current events. That is a true statement, they ARE current events. Keep in mind over half of the topics discussed on this website can be classified as a current event, they still must be discussed in their forum of relevance. The nature of the Current Events forum is to discuss current events that were not controversial, or would not lead to controversial discussions. The reason for this is that hot button topics lead to heightened emotional discussions and inevitably cause threads to be hijacked, and deviate into topics that are not meant to be discussed in this forum.

All topics regarding mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and any other hot button tragedy issue will be deleted. If you would like to participate in the discussions about these events please do so in the P&OC forum. Members who persist in reposting threads after they have been deleted will be given a two day cooling off period.
