NCL. does repositioning Vancouver (sept30/Oct1) to SD/LA (Oct4/Oct5) then to Miami (+14days)
We caught the up NCL Pacific Coast from LA to VAC in April 2016. Casino is open in the late pm hours. Not much alcohol consumption. Only 60% full. Get an inside cabin because you are too far from land to see much. Arrival in port cities are in the daylight AM so you can go on deck. Reasonably priced and comparable to airfare, hotel + food. Service was very good since no one was rushed. About half of the cruisers were Canal transit. Other were Canadians, PNWer, or those who intend to do the first Alaska cruise of the season.
I hope you have a lot of time. The only way to make that trip is through the Panama Canal. Leaving from Vancouver, check out Holland America and Princess cruise lines.
Years ago, We did NY to Seattle on HAL. Lovely 19 day cruise.
We have done 4 repos, all successful: the first one and maybe one of our favorite cruises was from London (Dover) to NYC in 2005. It was a 10 day cruise, did the North Atlantic which is much better in our mind than the standard transatlantic: we did one from Tampa to Boston, again a 10 day one: fun and lots of nice ports, the price was great. Many people we met on the cruise had done the same cruise several years. We loved our repo on Princess from Quebec City to Ft Lauderdale, didn't care for the ship and the repo from Los Angeles to
Vancouver was fun but the ports left a little to be desired. It is a great budget way to see a lot in a short time.

Nmnita, how did the cruise line get around the Jones Act on that Tampa to Boston cruise?
We took a Princess repo cruise from Miami through the Panama Canal stopping at a few Mexican ports to Los Angeles where we departed. The ship left the next day for Alaska stopping at ports in Washington and Vancouver then into Alaska. Fun trip, great weather, good food, lots of entertainment.
I personally just go to each website and search by the month I want to go. It will bring up all the destinations for that month. I keep track of all the itineraries and prices and then narrow it down. In this day and age I can do everything my self. I don't think you save anything by using a travel agent, you possibly pay more!
Has anyone done a repositioning cruise as their first cruise? Since they have more days at sea, I wonder how a novice would fare on such a trip. Such as finding out one is prone to seasickness, and it's impacting enjoying the voyage. Another question I have is food on the ships. I understand food is a big part of the cruise experience. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic are there options for people that need lighter meals? Such as salads and at least some sugar free low carb food options. Chicken and vegetable type dinners would be good. I'm just worried I would find other than Specialty restaurants, I would fine a food court type option at these low cruise fares. I'm going to go to a travel agent to book this trip, but I thought Id ask on here for cruise experiences.
These type cruises seem extremely cheap, which is what attracted me to research taking one. I'm retired and have the time. I also want to go on a solo vacation. I'm finding Norwegian Cruises now has solo cabins, so that the passenger doesn't have to pay double occupancy rates. That in itself makes this type vacation very reasonably priced. In fact I can't believe how inexpensive some of these repo cruises are.
We've done several repositioning cruises and enjoyed them all. Some have more port days than others. The transatlantic and trans pacific are many sea days, and we've avoided them. One BIG advantage of repositioning cruises we think is that there tend to be very few children, vtypically older passengers and ships are usually less crowded.
You'll have no trouble with food. Have your agent let them know ahead of time and they can EASILY accommodate you. On that score, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Those low prices? Add taxes, port charges, tips, alcohol, specialty restaurants, yeah, not so cheap anymore. Still, if you enjoy the experience, they are a bargain IMHO.

Thanks for that info. Have you done any of the cruises out of San Diego to Vancouver or Alaska? I think I would like that one. I'm not sure if those are repo cruises.
