The Federal Trade Commission is investigating the purchase of Subway sandwich shops by Roark Capital, the owner of a number of other sandwich and fast food restaurants, for antitrust violations.

Yikes! Could the reported $10 billion deal be disrupted or even stopped?

People do not see it directly but CT, not only in the aerospace department, has an unfathomable amount of cutting edge manufacturing output providing an additional 100k extremely well paying jobs. One of the last areas in the country where if you can get factory floor work you can be making corporate suite money. Really something we should appreciate.

I agree. Most states would love to have these great well paying jobs. We take them for granted.

Sonic and Arbys may be the big problem. May have to sell it, or a large chunk of Jimmy Johns. The FTC especially considers Arbys a sandwich shop.

Lots for Connecticut to cheer about in the new Federal military spending bill. From submarines built in Groton to helicopters in Stratford to jet engines built in East Hartford and Middletown, there’s something for everyone. They pretty much guarantee employment for a large sector of our state’s economy. Great news.

A French life sciences company has selected New Haven for its US headquarters and three other have announced they are expanding here.

Paris based ReST Therapies will initially have 6 employees but has yet to announce their location in New Haven.

Mannkind Corporation of Danbury will be adding 50 employees to its current staff of 260 employees.

Milestone Medical is moving into a new headquarters in Bloomfield. The 25,000 square foot building will allow it to triple in size.

And Yale startup Revalia Bio is expanding its New Haven operations into Elm City Bioscience Center’s 55 Church St. tower. Great news.

Santa came to town and was good to CT this year, that’s a long list of goodies to check twice and scroll.
The Shelton and Newtown projects look interesting. The Westport clubhouse thing looks great.
Phase 2 of Darien’s Corbin District is leveled out and ready for framing up.
This ain’t your grandfather’s CT anymore folks. CT ain’t playin’

The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology has reopened its grant program to Connecticut manufacturers to offer training and/or acquire new equipment and technologies. Funding is provided through the State Department of Community and Economic Development. Great news.

It is, but these grants should be perpetual, not reopened which implies it was closed. We have to treat manufacturing far more seriously. Unlike hedge funds, manufacturers invest in cap ex for the long term, as in decades. So, once you have them, their life cycle is far longer than other industries. They also have above average multiplier affects as in supplier jobs created per job directly at a manufacturer.
