Eversource is headed back to PURA with more rate increase requests.

https://www.courant.com/business/hc-...ome-story.html

Their saying it would increase an average bill by $12.00. Which is crazyness. Especially when you consider they had huge profits last year. Despite customers using 3% less electricity last year their profits were up 11.4% in the state. They even mention rate increases as one of the reasons for the profit in their annual report.

https://ctexaminer.com/2021/02/21/st...or-eversource/

Their CEO has also said he thinks the state will approve some form of rate increase. This all seems unacceptable to an outsider. I did a little research and got the impression that do to the ways the rules of their contract are worded with the state they may well get the increase because they are allowed to claw back certain costs regardless of how much money they make, which seems remarkably stupid.

They really are terrible.

Aren't there 4 or so legislators who are employed by Eversource in some capacity?

It was a big mistake to allow Connecticut based Northeast Utilities to merge with Boston based NSTAR. Bigger is never better and after their very poor preparation and response to Tropical Storm Isaias they have a lot of nerve to ask for yet another rate increase. Outside of Alaska and Hawaii, Connecticut already has the highest electric rates in the country. This adds insult to injury. Jay

To me it seems pretty reasonable. They have done a great job in my area the last 7 years or so trimming trees.
I have only lost power once for 3 hours over quite a few years. And their estimate of restoration time was very accurate. I have no complaints right now.

Unreal. Even after the legislature passed a bill and even were sued. Eversource back to it's old tricks.

The increase is because of a deal Lamont made with Millstone to buy power at double the current rate. Millstone threatened to close the plant due to competition from low cost natural gas plants. When the increase went into effect last year the stopped it.That increase is just eventually going to be passed on to rate payers.

We pay the highest rates of the lower 48 states. Eversource has been robbing us blind their profits are significantly lager then most other electric utilities. When they decoupled generation and distribution Eversource just kept raising the distribution fees most states distribution is well under .8 a KWH CT is over .12. The only state that's even close is MA which is guess what also served by eversource.

Both Rhode Island and Massachusetts actually have higher rates than CT according to the EIA. All of New England has high electricity rates.

Going solar last year was definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. I no longer have to worry about Eversource's crap.
