That block has been pretty empty since Richters closed (although that is supposed to be reopening too).

Yeah, it'll fill up when the Gateway campus opens, along with the new Richter's and Shake Shack. Only a couple empty storefronts to fill after that.

I also expect Church between George and Crown (next to the former Gotham) to fill up with classier places. That's kind of a shady block now but it will be right across the street from Gateway.

And OMG will the parking suck unless every single Gateway student parks in that new garage.

Apparently the garage was designed to house all the students necessary at one given time, unless there's an event I suppose.

And yeah, that road will fill up. I believe I posted earlier in this thread about a few storefronts that are being completely renovated in anticipation of the campus opening.

New Haven could position itself as the East Coast Palo Alto or Austin. It seems like Cambridge is competing for that spot, but I think New Haven has a shot.

Like Palo Alto, it's right outside a major metro (NYC vs. SF). It's got several colleges to tap young talent from, including one of the finest in the world. Biotech is already taking roots. There's a few startups growing.

Office space is far cheaper than NYC. It's between NYC and Boston with rail service to both.

Cost of living and commuting is easy compared to NYC and Boston. It has vibrant dining, nightlife and is becoming more hip.

CT taxes are rough, but up against NYC, Cambridge and SF/Palo Alto it isn't a losing fight.

It should be positioned as a startup haven. Pun intended.
