Day's biggest worry is having to go on the road to the west coast to play the latest additions to the Big10.

You have to look at how Ryan Day came to be the head coach.
He was on staff and was the easy, safe, cheap option to maintain continuity after Urban was pushed out. Which means they didn't go out and do a search, and Day is someone's "guy." (Like if they'd gone out and done a search and the AD really campaigned hard to bring Day in, ego and their success being tied together would cause the AD to "fight" for Day.) So, there's a really good chance no one in the AD or university is putting their neck on the line to save him.
