No program can stay at the top forever.

But, what they do in their off years is the key to long term success.

Top teams like GA & AL lose top players to the NFL, and top coaches to other NCAA teams & even the NFL, but they reload.

They might see a falloff for a year or two, but then thery are back on top...or near the top.

I think we are seeing GA & AL teams that is in the reload phase...not top 4 teams, but top 10 for sure.

As their young teams mature, they'll gain confidence and help their teams climb back up the ladder.

True..
Programs like Alabama have a great advantage in legacy recruiting/name recognition..

Ditto....The rich get richer. The beat goes on. Etc. I am going to add that it's tough to stay on top of the hill but GA and Bama have managed to do it for a while now.

When you get tons of great skill position players to compensate for their underwhelming OL, compete in a very top-heavy conference, play TONS of FCS schools and other FBS creampuffs (as Clemson and their ACC brethren do) or hire coaches who can turn a so-so program into a national powerhouse only to tank at his next job (Steve Spurrier), Bama and Georgia have no problem staying at the top of the CFB universe, now that Kirby Smart has figured how to handle Nick Saban.

Playing only 8 conference games helps pad their W-L records as well as the reputations of many of their NFL draftees, which leads to tons of busts at every possible position you can think of.

Alabama is my team all the way, but after watching yesterday's game of Georgia vs Ole Miss it's clear that Georgia is playing on a different level. Of course, Ga is hardly on a down year ,and hasn't been on one in several years. All of which makes it hard on us Alabama fans due to our expectations (demands?). We expect Alabama to go undefeated, beat Auburn, win the SEC championship and win the national title, and we expect that every single year. Anything less than that is a Greek tragedy and someone needs to be fired.

UGA's defense is nowhere near as good as they were the past 2 yrs. Look at points against ranking. I think we're 51st now, and allowing ~23 pts/game. Last 2 years, we were closer to 12 pts allowed/gm.

Our offense is as good, but not defense, or not even special teams.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if UGA beats your Crimson Tide in the SEC 'ship.

We're Alabama fans but we're reasonable about it. We know there will be years that we fail.
