Hello,

We are sick of being vampires so we are headed out to the Charlotte in the fall. My husband and I both work from home. We have a 22 year old, 20 year old and a 3 year old that we adopted last summer from foster care. The older boys will be staying in WA to finish up college. We are 44 and 53 years old and looking for a great pace to raise our little one but also enjoy pre retirement life. We love going out, craft cocktails, wine etc, boating, golfing etc. We are looking all over Lake Norman. We are very interested in sending our son to private school. I have looked at communities like Olmstead in Huntersville, all over Davidson, Cornelius and Mooresville. We want our 3 year old to have a neighborhood that is full of kiddos and fun, like minded people. I do fly out to visit my reps about twice a month.

Please help! Any advise would be so appreciated! We fly in March 6th to start looking around. We will be touring Davidson Day school, a couple charter schools, Lake Norman Christian School but we are not overly religious. We also don't know anyone so we are eager to find a fun neighborhood.

Thank you,

MC

It seems like you are on the right track. Cornelius/Davidson may be perfect. There are lots of community events in both places where you can meet people like you (unless you are Martian or something I'm not aware of). There are also some very friendly neighborhood pubs where you can meet nice people. Who knows, you may meet someone from the place you come from. Check out Barley Market near Antiquity, Old Town Public House, Catawba Ave. Cornelius, or many of the other great places around. Old Town Public House has really talented live music. It is all friendly and safe. Good luck. There are also lots of other communities that are excellent, but check for crime rates, school performance, etc. As they say,”We have it all.”

You are looking in a great area of the Charlotte region. A real estate agent should also be able to help you narrow down social and active neighborhoods with events, common spaces, neighborhood pools, et. to facilitate meeting other families. It might be good to connect with an agent in advance and ask them to drive you around / show you some neighborhoods.

Checking out downtown Davidson, Birkdale Village, Cornelius, et.. to see shopping and other amenities in the area. Visit some parks and maybe kayak on the lake if you enjoy water activities. Latta Place and the Raptor Center could be fun with a little one + Discovery Place Kids Museum in Huntersville.
