I am told by the sunny paragon of news that I married: the capacitor in the A/C unit atop the RV is d-e-d.

Replacing it would be a straightforward task for anyone who had wings. Solar panels all over the roof make it a bit tricky, don't you know.

Any ideas?

I recently replaced mine (Start capacitor on roof top RV A/C)
I had to make the climb 3x

1) to get it off and test and order the replacement
2) Re-install
3) After I tested it and verified it was working. - reassemble A/C cover.

was a 1 banana job (out of 5 for most difficult auto repairs)

I used an extension ladder and some foam exercise pads (for traction / protection while on the roof)
I seriously doubt there are Solar panels covering your A/C access cover. Panels are usually mounted to hinge out of the way for maintenance.

Make sure you secure the A/C cover well (they aren't cheap to replace when they blow off your roof while crossing the desert. bust to a thousand pieces)

IIRC the Capacitor was $7.00 at Amazon or Grainger, probably Grainger since I was there buying other spare capacitors for water well pump.

Maybe it's just pining for the fjords?

Our A/C died earlier this year and couldn't be revived by a new cap, so I replaced the whole thing. Ordered an exact replacement from Amazon. Dragged it up a ladder with a rope to the roof. The old A/C took a short flight off the roof to the ground. Done deal!

Ok, I suspected there was some Monty Python shenanigans going on when I read the thread title.

You stunned him, just as he was wakin' up! Norwegian Blues stun easily, major.

And when Fluffy tries to exchange the bad component:

Shopkeeper: Ah, we're all out of capacitors...

Feedback from other rvers - https://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/rep...rs-420925.html

Now back to dead parrots.

Mr. Praline: Look, I took the liberty of examining that parrot when I got it home, and I discovered the only reason that it had been sitting on its perch in the first place was that it had been NAILED there.

(pause)

Owner: Well, o'course it was nailed there! If I hadn't nailed that bird down, it would have nuzzled up to those bars, bent 'em apart with its beak, and VOOM! Feeweeweewee!

A trip to an RV shop may be on the horizon.
