There are many Californians where I live, and you can tell who they are by the way they drive. They don't go when the light turns green, and they hang out in the fast lane going 5mph under the speed limit. They also like to ride my rear when I'm on my motorcycle, even when they can (hopefully) see that there's a car in front of me.

I was born in San Francisco and lived in the Bay Area until age 42. After moving here to Sammamish WA I found that many of our neighbors came from the Bay Area or Southern CA, and never would have guessed that if they hadn't told me. Currently I have a boss and 3 employees reporting to me that came from there, and never would have guessed that either. There is no accent or terminology exclusive to California, Oregon or Washington, the west coast is all about the same. All of that 1980s "valley girl" and surfer stuff ended years ago and that didn't spread very far from LA.
