^ I didn't notice any additional posts by the OP. Most of the replies were from people that don't know Batavia through personal experience.
Or have information pertaining to the city or maybe an older, but relevant view of the city. All of it can be useful and that is assuming people don’t have an experience with or information about the city/area.
This thread is 33 posts long with almost no information that can not be gleaned from Googling Batavia. If I were inquiring about an area, I would want some observations from people that either lived, worked or spent considerable time in that place.
^Again, this is assuming that people haven't spent time, aren't familiar with or don't have information to contribute in regards to Batavia. Maybe if posters spent time on answering questions or giving some tangible information that the OP is looking for like culture, ethnicity, crime, etc. versus worrying getting into my experience is more important than others contest(let alone considering that bias), they may actually respond back.
^Most of the posts have been in response to the not close enough to Buffalo or Rochester areas claim, which ironically has been mentioned by other posters as well in terms of the city’s proximity to both.
Also, some information in relation to culture, ethnicity and crime have been posted. So, they may have gotten what they needed.
With that said, there may be others interested in the information presented in the thread as well.
I worked there for 25 years and its a relatively rural, lower income area with not much to do. Shopping consists of Walmart, Home Depot and Tops. Most of the retail is clustered around Walmart on the east end of town. On my lunch hour I would walk all over the city, a radius of 2 miles from the center and I am very familiar with the area. Not many decent non chain restaurants. I ate at Bohn's every day for years but unfortunately its closed. Alex's (awesome pot roast on Thursday) is very popular and Terry Hills is the most upscale. There are some nice houses around Centennial Park. When the massive Massey Harris plant closed in 1958 the city lost thousands of irreplaceable jobs. Its about average for crime. The prisons are large employers. They tore down the entire downtown to build the Genesee County Mall which is almost vacant and now with JC Penney closing it must be really sparse.
The Home Depot shut down years ago.
