So my family and I are possibly moving out to the Bozeman area from Colorado. I have been scouring everything trying to learn as much about the area as I can as well as lurking on here a bit but I still have a few questions.

I see that the housing market is similar to Colorado (although not as bad, thankfully). I have been looking in the areas of Three Forks, Ennis, Manhattan, and Bozeman to try and find a rental home for the first year while we figure out what area we would actually want to buy a house. I would prefer to rent in the same area so that I don't have to move my kids out of school after a year when/if we move. Can anyone give me their opinion of the school systems in those four areas?

I am more drawn to the smaller towns because we would like to have some land and a view but I can wait on that for when the kids are finished with school in about 5 years (they are 13 and 14 years old), if it means they will be enrolled into a better school system.

Does anyone know of a way to find private landlords in any of those areas? I have researched all of the management companies for a rental but I am finding that they do not have much of a selection and I haven't heard the best things about them either. I have also checked out Zillow and have found a few there but ZERO of them are in Ennis, which is one of my favorites on the list! Manhattan seems impossible too, probably because of the school system. I thought maybe some locals would know a better way to find out about homes in the area?

We will be visiting for a few days to wrap up some things with the job I am in the process of getting there in about a week (sorry about the last minute post). My husband and one of my daughters have not been to Montana yet. I have been but I have only driven through Bozeman, which is where our hotel is and where I will be working. Can anyone give me ideas about where to take them around the area to help give them a sense of comfort? Also anything that may stem some interest in cranky teenagers after a longish road trip? I did see the hot springs in Norris but is there a better one?

Thank you ahead of time for the help! It is super appreciated

There are currently 168 3 plus bedrooms on Bozeman's craigslist. https://bozeman.craigslist.org/searc...date=all+dates What price range and other features (besides good schools) are you looking for?

Should we assume you've dug into some or many of the over 300 Bozeman threads available for review?

I have read a vast number of posts. Rental price? Hopefully not more than $2200 (but obviously, less is more). I did look on Craigslist and I was taken aback by the lack of actual houses there were for that price.

I would rather be in a place that is the opposite of the suburbs... and 2-3 rooms.

My husband's only request is that it has a garage.

That's about it. Seems like it should be easy but it never is!

If you do Facebook there's a group called Ask Ennis Montana where you can post questions etc. You'll need to ask to join the group before posting. Rentals in Ennis are hard to come by but there are some Property Managers in that group that may be able to assist. The school system is good and it's a neat town with a sense of community.

Of the places in that price range on craigslist, these might be among the better ones

https://bozeman.craigslist.org/apa/d/bozeman-great-3-bed-25-bath-home-in/6905420787.html

Garage.

Vacancy rent is pretty tight. You might have to jump on offerings fast. Would you consider an extended stay motel for a week or month or two to find a place?

This is 50 miles from Bozeman https://bozeman.craigslist.org/apa/d...898768365.html
but it escapes suburban.

This one is in Bozeman https://bozeman.craigslist.org/apa/d...917758256.html
Neighbors but some open fields still nearby, for the moment. Garage.

https://bozeman.craigslist.org/apa/d...901868695.html Suburban but near a big park. Garage.

Of all the mentioned locations, Manhattan Christian (in Manhattan) is by far the best school. Willow Creek might be worth a look, if you want small town. Ennis school is ok for it's size, but not academically focused.

Regardless of where you land if your kids ski they will be happy, if they don't get them into it.

I'd take them to Big Sky to partake in summer activities....there's usually some music, etc.

Bozeman has Museum of Rockies & I think Genghis Khan exhibit is on now.

Thank you for this! We do ski, so it will be great to be able to take those abilities a little further north! Hopefully it is less crowded there than it is in Colorado. It's honestly not even fun to go anymore with all of the traffic and congestion on the hills.
