3 years olds go to school today? Are they taking Quantum Mechanics or just Calculus?

They call it "terrible twos" for a reason. Is a 3 year old even capable of behaving in a classroom setting? Sounds crazy. Sounds like a mean thing to do to a teacher.

I thought preschool was 4. I thought 3 was still day care. Live and learn, I guess. Preschool is 3. I wouldn't think any 3 year old boys are calm enough for preschool.

As a teacher (and to paraphrase Christ Rock)...

I'm not say she should have done it, but I understand.

I saw this briefly about a 3 year old being restrained at bps and I too wondered what a 3 year old was even doing at BPS in the first place. Even if it was preschool most kids don't go until they're 4 or 5 so I agree that 3 seems young to be in the care of BPS, special needs or not.

Must have been a very out of control kid but clearly restraining them was not the thing to do.

Im hearing the kid was restrained in a chair with nylon straps and buckles

Welp i just saw there's K0 where a parent can send their kid to bps at 3. Sure beats paying for daycare until kindergarten. Mom intends to file a lawsuit.

Correct, BPS takes 3-year olds into K0 and 4-year olds into K1. It's a lottery with priority given to needs-based kids, so not all 3-4 year olds in Boston will get in. It's also not quite all day (9:15 to 3:45), so some parents supplement with before/after-school programs at local daycares.

In my Denver suburb in 1997, preschool started at 2 1/2, but the kids had to be potty-trained.

I have no idea what it is now in Colorado or in other states.

Of course, I guess it depends on what is meant by "preschool", but they started teaching counting and colors, at least, at a very young age (but mainly it was just socialization and learning to be quiet in "circle time").

I have to wonder why the city/BPS thought it would be a good idea to implement this type of program. The schools are in bad enough 'health' and surely money used towards taking care of 3/4 year olds all day (and clearly not very good care) could have been used towards something else...like making things better for kids actually LEARNING...but instead it seems like the city/BPS decided to go the route of free daycare...because that's what it is.
