If the sale goes through, and A&M purchases Birmingham Southern's beautiful campus, the College Hills/Bush Hills/Greymont areas of Birmingham are going to be reinvigorated! Alabama A&M University At Birmingham will be the name, and officials say they can have 1000 students enrolled full-time this fall, and around 3500 in the first few years. That area of the city definitely could use that growth! This is also the same area that received the $50 million federal grant to revitalize Smithfield/Greymont/College Hills! Exciting times in Birmingham!

So they would/should shift their focus a bit. Be Birmingham Tech to get students in on the growing tech sector in the city for minorites as well as a feeder to UAB medical. Be a sponge for some of that sweet federal nectar out there. The spin off could outgrow the original. Sounds like a plan.

This thing is getting interesting! Miles College has made an official offer for BSC's old campus! I'm gonna be honest and say I want Alabama A&M University to get the campus, but hope the city will find a way to get Miles College out of Fairfield and into Birmingham city limits also! The city should exhaust every effort to get any and all entities interested in the campus into the city somehow. I sit back and laugh, because so many thought BSC's closing was some sort of bad news for Bham, and it was in a way. But, this has opened doors to several higher education institutions that were looking to come into the city all along! Let's get Alabama A&M, Miles College, Alabama State, and any other entities interested into the city while this opportunity is available!

Eh, I'd rather Miles to stay in Fairfield. Gary Ave has some good bones, and, despite the current financial issues, I do sense the drive to turn things around in that municipality compared to others in the area. And Fairfield turning it around feels like the best chance for saving Ensley's building stock, as Ensley's a bit far from the big focus areas for Bham, and it'll take a fair bit of time to finally reach Ensley. And, to be frank, Ensley's bones don't have much time left unless a lot pre-financial payoff renovation happens immediately.

Well....judging by the Miles College offer, Miles clearly wants out of Fairfield! Now.....One of two things can happen. Birmingham can assist Miles and help them relocate into the city, or Fairfield can be annexed into the city entirely! Fairfield is bankrupt, and without Miles, it's basically dead! Funny how things have a way of working themselves out! Stay tuned folks....things are about to get interesting!
