This page of the thread really cracked me up!

And how does Dupont prove or disprove you didn't vacuum four times a week? Are you supposed to document each vacuum?!

I actually can't stand carpet because it's only "clean" when it's brand new. And we have dogs, and we will always have dogs. When we bought our house it had new carpet in the bedrooms and aging vinyl everywhere else. I pulled the new carpet out and put down vinyl before we moved in. It seemed like a bit of a waste, but it's a lot easier to do a job like that in an empty house than one that is being lived in.

Also, I want to hear the roomba/mongoose story.

Our floor robot almost made it outside once due to a screen door that didn't latch but there's a small drop off from the slab to the ground and the sensors realized that was a no go. It couldn't back up because the door had jammed it up so it wasn't lost into the jungle.

Okay, so our first Roomba was great. But over tme, it seemed like it wouldn't charge correctly and we'd often find it dead (discharged) in different parts of the house. My wife spent a good amount of time on the phone with customer service (they're actually quite good), and after a lot of back and forth, they sent us a free replacement battery.
About a week later, we discovered that the mongoose that lives in our house had figured out how to turn it on while we're gone and would ride it around for hours on end. Here's a screenshot from a video I took, sorry, it's pretty poor quality. Anyway, we ended up calling CS back to explain what was happening and they had a good laugh about it.

And here is in my lap getting dirty looks from the cat.

There is another more important story I want to hear about how one winds up with a pet mongoose!

Do they make good pets? Do they stink? Are they like Rikki Tikki Tavi?

One of our dogs turns our floor robot on all the time. The "run" and "home" buttons on the robot are all within the same 1" space so the dog can't differentiate between the two. Either he starts a cleaning cycle or it backs up and parks itself again, reinforcing the dog's behavior like playing fetch.

A mongoose, is like a cat......on crack....
..with ADHD.
Actually they make surprisingly affectionate little pets. And since they are diurnal, they sleep all night.
This one was abandoned and we started feeding him. He eventually discovered our pet door and would come and go as he pleased. He slept in a cabinet in our kitchen. He played with our cats and dogs and actually liked people.
I uploaded a video of him playing with our Husky to YouTube, if you search "Husky Vs. Mongoose", you can view it.

Thanks for sharing. That's cute. I often wondered if they would make good pets if raised from a pup. The adults I've trapped or otherwise encountered have a completely different temperament.

Yep, just like feral cats. Cute, but if you ever try to handle one, they'll put some hurt to you.
