Except that Corvallis is situated in a much more attractive location with better access to outdoor activities. The area around Albany is flat and plain looking. Albany looks like it does because it was a prosperous mill town on a transportation hub and the lumber industry was killed by the environmentalists and Albany is dying. A few years back, Albany was a much more prosperous town than Corvallis.

Without the college, Corvallis would have grown to be like Bend ( but wetter). A retirement and recreation vacation town.

The plus for college towns for people not involved with the college is the constant supply of intellectual and sporting events that the public can participate in.

Which it acquired after it already grew and became "A retirement and recreation vacation town."

I'm referring to the University, of course. Community colleges don't count.

OSU-Cascades had about 1,200 students enrolled last year, or about as much as a medium-sized high school.
OSU in Corvallis had 31,000 students enrolled last year and a budget of $1.1 billion.

Is the $1.1 billion just for the Corvallis campus?

that seems like an elitist view if I have ever heard one.....

Personally I am glad we don't have a surge of 31,000 college students swooping in and out of Bend's population of 80k or so.

https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fa...egon/PST045217

July 1, 2017 US Census Bureau estimates Bend Oregon population at 94,520.

Add in the daily average of 20,000+ tourists and Bend is pushing 120K with the growth since July 1, 2017.

Yes I think so. I just pulled it off the Wikipedia page for OSU. Universities are pretty diligent about curating their wikipedia pages because they are the source of info for so many prosective students. So I would assume it is not far off. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_State_University

I read that as OSU's total budget.
