Elbow surgery this morning went well. He's expected to bat in 2024 and pitch again in 2025.

Obviously time for him to pull a "Babe Ruth" give up pitching and go hit 80 homers next season.

Put yeah, what a freaking waste of him and Trout on that team. I don't follow baseball close enough to know why the Angels could have superstars and not put playoff rosters around them, but the best player in baseball has never played in the most important games and just turned 30. He needs to look elsewhere, I don't blame him.

Yeah but they haven't won a World Series since 2009 despite having one of the largest payrolls in MLB!

Big payroll teams are not getting what they think they are paying for! Ohtani will be a big ticket player for sure but whether or not they get what they think they are paying for will remain to be seen!

Rich guys don't play or practice as hard as the guy before his big contract year signing.

Deal got done. Ohtani to the Dodgers, 10-year $700M, the highest number in all of North American sports.

From The Athletic:

Quote:
Only one team could secure Ohtani’s services. He will now be compensated for both his immense talent and his unparalleled star power. His contract eclipsed the $360 million record for free agents set last winter by New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and also surpassed the record-setting $426.5 million extension from Ohtani’s former Angels teammate Mike Trout. His achievement exceeded even those outside of baseball, topping the $450 million contract inked by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Ohtani has outpaced even soccer star Lionel Messi’s $674 million contract — signed in 2017 when he was with FC Barcelona.

OP here. Now I love Ohtani. He's the only reason I've paid any attention to baseball in years. But that contract is one of the reasons I think MLB is just retarded. Ten years?!?!? for a guy who's already 29 years old with 2 major injuries already??? If that is not a reason for some sort of salary cap then I dont know what is. And again, I love the guy. But that contract is absolutely nuts.

Absurd!!! Its been proven over and over again that these 10 years contract never work out.

Robinson Cano, Albert Pujols. Bobby Bonilla.

They start to fade by year 4. If not sooner.

Bobby Bonilla never got a 10 year deal. His deal was restructured to help out the current team & Pujols just isn't built to last that long effectively. Not saying Ohtani will be MVP style at 40. But I think he will sitll be a good player at 35 or 36 especially with the DH being there.
