Greetings!

I am moving from a large urban school system to Columbia, Maryland, within the next few months.

I don't know much about Columbia, but I have a sister currently living there.

I am searching for a good, racially diverse elementary school with a good gifted and learning (GAL) program in Columbia. I am also open to schools immediately outside of Columbia, such as Hanover, Elkridge, and Ellicott City, but they must be within the Howard County boundaries.

Thank you!!

The information you seek may be found here:

https://www.hcpss.org/schools/#direct

Pick any school, click on View School Details, then click on View School Profile for demographic information. You will find that all schools in Columbia and surrounding areas are racially diverse. The school system did a big redistricting a few years ago with the avowed purpose of evening out the demographics across all schools, except for the ones in the western part of the county (Glenelg, etc.)

Columbia has some bad areas so hope you're not staying in those places. They are Oakland Mills, Downtown, Stephens Forrest, any area in Eastside. Just to name a few.
