Young coworker was surprised when we told him about cars designed with folding seat backs to form a bed for sleeping on a road trip. In the 90s I was in the Navy and going home on leave was cheaper by driving between the base in Virginia and my family home in south Louisiana. For safety sake I would occasionally pull into a rest area, recline my seat, crack open windows, lock doors, and drift off to sleep.

Naps - yes. All night sleeping - no.

Never. I gots to lay down. I can sleep on a floor fine but not in a seat. My Vette would never work to sleep in.

I've slept in my vehicle a few times in my life. Very uncomfortable for a guy that's 6'6" but at the time it was the only viable option.

During my college years, four of us delivered a Corvair Monza from a dealer in Chicago to a dealer in LA.

Being poor college kids, we slept in the car across the country. Sitting up--no room to lie down for 4 kids.

I remember waking up parked in front of a diner in Missouri and folks peering in at us as though we were zoo creatures. Which I'm sure we resembled, all drooling and touseled!

I did it a couple of times in my early 20s. Woke up tired, feeling dirty, and it was a rough day driving. Once I had a decent job I could afford at least a discount motel and that was much better. Plus, having a girlfriend /wife meant a motel for sure.

often, (for the last 50+ yrs)
road trips,
short trips,
going somewhere to see sunrise
meeting up with travelers
being at a trailhead for 3AM departure...

I can't count the number of National Parks I have car camped ( about 10 this yr alone)
I will often pick up a rental car in Vegas and head for the National Parks in Utah. Then go park to park (often driving at night and arriving at 2-3am). You can find showers during the day at campgrounds and lodges. Love to walk under the night sky, lay on a picnic table and watch the stars. Nobody is around Have done car camping in Alaska and Canada because there are no hotels where I'm at, or anywhere within a day's drive.

Ever slept in your car as part of a road trip? yes... even while driving

Numerous times. Usually on the back bench seat or fold down one of the back seats and lay down half in the cargo area and half on the seat back. A camping bedroll and sleeping bag makes it comfortable enough to get some rest.

Many times, for different reasons. Had a pickup truck with a bed topper for a while, that was handy to stretch out in and not be disturbed...nobody would ever guess there's a person back there.

Had a friend once who told me the story that while in college he slept in his car parked on campus for a while to save money on rent. Said he rigged a canvas cover/tarp to stretch from the front seats to the back of the car, and with the back seats folded down he could crawl under the tarp and sleep undetected. I think he said this was in a Volkswagen Rabbit! (very small hatchback car)

Absolutely, especially now. I've found that I can drive to Florida without stopping overnight by sleeping during the charging stops. I typically choose one to sleep longer, approximately 1-2 hours as opposed to the typical 20-30 minute stops.
