I was in college in Atlanta in the late '60s and a friend lived next to a beer salesman trying to get college kids off Buds and into Falstaff gave us free Atlanta 500 tickets when Cale just about owned that track along with paddock passes, I always liked those mile and a half tracks. Did the same for us for the Sebring 12 hours.

R.I.P Cale, you took another checker.

I'm a second half of the boom baby boomer, and when I watched NASCAR as a kid on TV (in the San Francisco Bay Area) I remember Cale as one of the big names.

A family I'm close to ended up in North Carolina after leaving the Bay Area, and I moved to Texas, and I ended up gaining more of an appreciation for NASCAR.

RIP, Cale.

I miss that era of NASCAR when drivers were allowed to be themselves, I gave up on NASCAR when they took points away from Junior earned on the track for something he said in the winner's circle. To me that meant it was no longer about racing as much as a haven for corporate shilling.

A lot of history is fading away with the passing of Cale and his generation of racers.

I would love to see someone like Junior sit down with Richard Petty and do a lengthy interview reflecting on NASCAR of old and personal reflections of how NASCAr became what it is today and his thoughts but I think with sponsors and NASCAR his tongue would be tied.

I wish Curtis Turner was still around! I'd love to hear what he had to say about the whole circus.
