So, for the 75th, they're adding 25 new names to the 50 Greatest Drivers from 1998.

Jeff Gordon had already made that list back in 1998. The names that I've seen so far being added.. Tony Stewart, which is a no brainer. And.. Kasey Kahne.. That one.. MAYBE a touch surprising. I'd have to classify his career as a disappointment. So much more was expected of him. I mean, he did win 18 races, won the Coke 600 3 times and the Brickyard, at a time where it had lost its luster..

Of the original 50 greatest, 36 of them have been inducted into the HoF. Of those that haven't Geoff Bodine, Ernie Irvan and Neil Bonnett are very similar to Kahne in stats. I.. Don't see any of them getting into the HoF.

Drivers I expect to be added.. Jimmie Johnson, without question. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, Harvick..

That's 12 more. we still need another 13.

Some names that.. Maybe you wouldn't overly expect.. Matt Crafton, Jason Keller and Randy LaJoie from lower series. Jeff Green would be a possibility there as well.

I guess if you're putting Kahne in, that'd qualify Biffle? Bowyer?

What are the other names you expect to see added?

I think Sam Ard has to be given serious consideration. He flat dominated the Busch Series in '82, '83 and '84, and his career was cut short by injury.

Hahaha... I saw that this morning , my first thought was ... There must of been a lot fewer NASCAR drivers through the years than I thought, If Kahne is in the top 75.

Agree. Ard should have made it in the original 50, most likely.

Oh.. Jeff Burton.. I'd think he should make the list.

Again, kinda focusing on the secondary series.. Perhaps Skinner and Hornaday? I'd say that Ron probably has a much better case. Skinner was great in the early truck series, but.. Never amounted to much of anything any higher than that. AND put a whole lot of time in higher series.

Unlike, the previous names I mentioned, or.. Even someone like Jack Sprague.

Leffler could, perhaps, have a case made. he didn't win a ton, but he was always top 10. His Cup career was a disaster, multiple times, but a solid Busch career. Probably still a stretch.

Ok.. There's Randy Lajoie.. Nailed that one.

They seem to be announcing these names late in the evenings.

Mmmm.. Not sure about that one, either.. Just too early in his career.. Do I REALLY doubt that he'd make the 100 greatest in another 25 years? No. But.. Is he part of the 75 greatest NOW? Close.. But I'd fall on the No side.

As a Larson fan, when I first saw he was selected, it was a bit of a head scratcher.

75 drivers is a pretty big list. NASCAR will need to add a few current drivers and as an all around race car driver, Kyle Larson is one of the best.

Had I been NASCAR though, he would have come in a bit later in the list. Kyle Busch would have certainly been a better choice early on. No recent driver has won more races than this guy. Heck even Kurt is deserving.

Certainly one of the biggest omissions thus far is 7-Time Jimmy Johnson. (We will obviously see both names soon).

So I'm not sure why they are picking names this way, just seems a bit random.
