Now, here's an architectural oddity.

On a remote mountain, the 'Sistine Chapel of Socialism' awaits its fate
She said she heard there was a “very strange building” atop a mountain somewhere but that she “had no idea what it was.”

Oddity?
Why not call it what it really is- a communist relic that needs to keep deteriorating; or just be leveled.
If there’s any “oddity”, it’s those that feel there is a need to preserve the structure- not in remembrance only, but at a cost of “that” remembrance.

Here in Chemnitz, which was called Karl-Marx-Stadt during the communist era of East Germany, the most prominent monument is still standing in the city center, a giant bust of Marx in front of a socialist realism (ugly) building that proclaims Proletarians of the World Unite!
