There is significant rehabilitation going on in downtown Albany, mainly in the conversion of office buildings to apartments, but there is also new construction. Another big project is in the Hudson Park neighborhood of Albany just south of Center Square. Long Energy's old building is being converted into like 75 apartment units. Also, the warehouse district in Albany is seeing a lot of rehabs. That's just north of downtown on your way to Menands.
Well, there are the apartments going up in downtown Schenectady around the casino that are supposed to be "luxury." They are also building apartments in Rotterdam, IIRC where the Curry Shopping Center used to be on Curry Road.
A downstate investor is planning to spend $4.6 million to rehab a historic building in Albany and convert it into 36 apartments with 3,000 square feet of retail space.
David Shemano of Brooklyn, who controls West Mall Office Center LLC, and is the owner of 4 Central Ave. in Albany, received tax exemptions Thursday from the city Industrial Development Agency.
The property, also known as the Mayfair building, was built in 1872.

The Vecino Group, headquartered in Springfield, Missouri, is renovating a five-story, 88,000-square-foot building into 74 apartments and retail space.
The developer is investing around $19 million to convert the Troy, New York, building into the 444 River Lofts. Thirty of the apartments at 444 River St. will be affordable housing.
The building will have about 7,600 square feet of commercial/retail space on the first floor.
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Delta Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors, DPC announced that it plans to open a new office at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady.
Mohawk Harbor is a 60-acre master planned community that integrates “luxury living,” high-tech offices, hotels, restaurants, and retail along one mile of the Mohawk River.
Delta, headquartered in Endwell in Broome County, plans to relocate eight jobs to the new office, the firm said in a news release. It also intends to hire another 10 to 12 employees for the office during the next few years.
“Our company’s goal is to make a difference in the communities we serve. Mohawk Harbor is the ideal location for us to serve our clients in Eastern New York State and New England,” Anthony Paniccia, president & CEO of Delta, said in the release. “We are excited about becoming part of this exciting waterfront development, and we appreciate the efforts of both the Metroplex Development Authority and the Galesi Group for working with us on our expansion to Schenectady.” The Galesi Group is a Schenectady–based real-estate firm.
