It's been a few years since we've had a real winter. Some of my favorite winter weather is the clear skies and bitter cold we would get for a few weeks at a time in January and February, after a heavy snowfall.

There's a practical reason to miss the bitter cold, too. It cuts down on the number of insect pests the following spring and summer, like ticks and mosquitoes. (it might also help control the number of invasive plants and animals that aren't accustomed to the cold, too)

Unfortunately for me, I don't think we're going to get much--if any--of my favorite kind of winter weather this year. From what I've read, El Nino usually means we get a warmer, dryer winter.

I lived right up the road in Seville, until 2010. In the early 1990s, my husband bought me a fur coat, which I used to wear several times each winter. By the time I moved, I hadn’t worn it for many years…it was never cold enough.

You would be able to wear your fur coat now. It's been brutally, viciously cold in January. 6F when I got gas this morning.

Isn't it great? We only have about 1-2 inches of snow here in Youngstown, but I love the bright blue skies and sunshine on the snow!

We're supposed to be back to slightly colder than seasonable weather by Wednesday, and back into the mid 40s by the middle of next week.

January 2024 had an average temperature of 29.5 F. Historical average temperature is 26.6 F, so we were 2.9 degrees F above the historical average. I participated in the survey for the Wooster Station, and requested that they resume snowfall measurement for Wooster.
