THIS IS A REVISED COMMENT WITH ADDITIONAL INFO AND INCLUDING THE REPLY FROM THE HOTEL AND MY RESPONSE TO THAT REPLY. Photos can be viewed with my review on tripadvisor dot com.
Room 1337 (lakeside) had mold across the ceiling & walls of the vanity area due to improper climate control from (I imagine) a 1/2-inch space under the door. All metal surfaces were rusty, including the HDMI connectors on the TV. I had to bring in my own T.V. to use because I was told they don't swap out items from rooms, and I couldn't use the HDMI connectors due to total rusting. Room 1344 where they moved me was FILTHY. Filthy floors which were neither swept nor mopped, the trash can was disgustingly dirty, dirty toilet, soap scum and mildew in the shower, torn door gasket which made that room humid as well. Constant, almost daily wifi connection problems which the hotel staff blamed on my NEW computer rather than their equipment/internet service, and they refused to allow me to move to a room connecting off a different router and eventually evicted me from the hotel for complaining. The attached pictures are of room #1344. "George C." (fictitious?) gives the impression that their rooms are spotless, but that is completely false. This hotel has been cited in the past for excessive rat problems and roaches. Seven out of ten (68%) people who stayed there rate it poor or terrible. I was also lied to before even coming to this hotel. I called for information about the hotel and area and asked if the walls properly insulated from noise and I was told: "yes unless someone is yelling loudly". Falsehood. The walls are so thin I could hear the man next door clearly when talking on his phone, and he was able to hear me snoring. I asked if the neighborhood is good, and was told "yes". Falsehood. After arriving here I asked around and was told while the neighborhood isn't terrible, you don't want to be walking around at night. I asked if the police have to be called to this hotel often, and was told "no, except for the occasional domestic dispute". Falsehood. While here the hotel staff called the police trying to evict a guest. I approached one of the officers and asked him the same question. He literally rolled his eyes and said "All the time". The reader can verify this by calling the Lakeland Police located on Massachusetts Ave and Pine street. One of the pictures of the hotel even captured a police car in the parking lot.
"We advised you that to avoid any mold or mildew growth it was best to always keep your air conditioner at a constant temperature."
Falsehood. When I woke up my second day in room 1344 (the SECOND room I stayed in) I found the A/C unit had flooded the room with water. I reported this and was told to keep the unit at one temperature to avoid the coils freezing and then thawing, thus causing the flooding. But I had not touched the controls and was never told anything about controlling mold in that room or the first room..
"...you had a daily routine of taking long, hot showers and walking around in the nude..."
Falsehood. I don't discuss my personal grooming habits with total strangers working in hotels.
"After several months of your morning ritual and then turning the air conditioner back on, the heat and humidity from the shower mixed with the cold air and eventually mold did grow."
Falsehood. I had no morning ritual other than coffee and trying to log on their WiFi, and certainly no ritual that I would disclose to a stranger. I shower at night, not in the morning. The mold grew in room 1337 because the room, I'm guessing, was improperly insulated against humidity from the lake and the weather. I even purchased a dehumidifier to use, and the humidity in the room would not go below 70% at any time. And keep in mind, the info they gave me about keeping the A/C at one temp was given for the SECOND ROOM in which I stayed (1344), not the first (1337).
"Your new desk top computer was incapable of connecting to the Wi-Fi, but somehow your Roku and your phone connected to the same Wi-Fi single just fine."
Falsehood. I had hotel security come to room 1337 and look at my Roku and PC during one of the constant outages. NEITHER would connect, and he observed the connection failure messages. My phone operates off my phone's carrier and therefore doesn't require a WiFi connection.
"One of the managers even went to your room with his personal laptop and showed you how to connect to the Wi-Fi and then brought up multiple web pages and streamed videos in front of you to illustrate that there were no inherent connectivity problems."
Falsehood. The manager did bring his laptop into my room but did demonstrate anything because I informed him the wifi connection was working at the time he visited. He told me to contact him in the future when the WiFi went down so he could come to the room and check. I did this twice by calling the front desk, and he never showed up. Incidentally, since leaving their hotel I have no problems connecting via WiFi.
"At one point we invited you to bring your computer to the front desk to see if you could connect the WI-FI in the lobby; there too you were unable to connect the Wi-Fi signal."
Falsehood. I was, in fact, able to connect to the lobby router on two different occasions and I showed this to both the General Mgr. and the Guest Service Mgr. once I connected. Their response was to evict me from the hotel, saying they "were unable to accommodate" me. Although I asked several times to move to another room where I could check the WiFi connection first, I was always told there were no rentable rooms available. Meanwhile, the hotel advertises available rooms every day on Craigslist. Readers are welcome to go to that site and verify.
"The second room that you stayed in, 1344 does in fact connect to a different router than 1337 thereby during your stay your “NEW computer” was unable to connect to at least three different WI-FI signals"
Falsehood. I never complained about the WiFi in #1344. I asked to move to a different room again because the bedsprings in the mattress were broken on both sides of the bed, leaving only a small area in the center to sleep on. They finally told me I could move to another room for a $25.00 room-change fee, but they did this on the same day they called the police on me to try and evict me with 30 minutes notice. So it's obvious to me this was an attempt to get more money out of me before throwing me out.
"You stayed at our establishment for over six months, these photos could have been taken any time during your stay. Whatever filth that is depicted in these photos is your own, because these are not the conditions under which we check-in new guests."
Falsehood. I did not stay in the hotel for even six months, let alone over six months. And while it is possible for someone to take photos at any time, I did not. I took those photos the day they had me move into the room. While I stayed at the Paramount Lakeside Inn, I kept my room impeccably clean. In Fact, the first room they put me in also had filthy floors, which I cleaned with a power steam mop because my feet turned black within minutes of walking on the floor barefoot. I believe they intentionally put me in room 1344, a filthy room, as retaliation for complaining about the WiFi.
"We had to make 1337 un-rentable, pending maintenance due to your abuse and neglect of hotel property."
Falsehood. When I checked out, they had Security go and check the room. They even billed me $15.00 for a dirty towel. If I abused and neglected hotel property, I'm certain I would've been immediately billed for any "abuse".
"These photos are not indicative of the state of our guestrooms"
My review doesn't speak to the state of the guestrooms in general, only to those in which I stayed. And I have written truthfully about the conditions.
This reply from the hotel made by this "George C." or "G.C." is nothing more than an attempt to project blame onto me and sidestep accountability for the conditions of the rooms in which I stayed. If I had to guess I would say it was written by a Lawyer. There IS NO "George C." or "G.C." working as Guest Relations Mgr. at Paramount Lakeside Inn. Not that I was told about, and I asked who were the people in charge. I got to know just about everyone working in the office. I was told who the Guest Relations/Services Manager is, and it wasn't anyone named George C..
My intention was to simply delete the completely false comments by the hotel, but I decided instead to respond point-by-point. The reader can decide for themselves if I'm being truthful. But remember that you are looking at a hotel that is HALF the price of any other hotel in the area. That should tell you something.
