I would like to know who Pope Field was named for. My brother-in-law is a descendant of the Popes who have lived in Hancock county since the early 1800s. I'm wondering if the airstrip might have been named for one of his ancestors.
We would appreciate any info you might have.
Thanks. Jacque

How was the airfield named? Thru my grandmother, Viola Folkening, she was a cousin of Loren Pope. Just curious.
