Under General Comments above, it says that Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport Operational, Activation Date was 11/1/1961. It might be a minor point, but the airport actually opened for business on July 20, 1961, when the Indiana State Aeronuatics Commission issued its approval for the airport. My Dad, brother, and I built the airport, and I remember the date well. I still have the original copy of the approval certificate.

As the airport celebrates 50 years of operation, the history of it's construction and early days of operation are documented in "Gatewood Airport - A History of Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport - 1960-1967". 175 pages and over 200 photos, available on Lulu.com.
