Septic systems need to be vented as well, but may not be as noticeable as such systems are usually associated with larger properties. More often than not you will notice a larger 6" diameter pipe that will indicate the location of the fresh water well. Hopefully not too near the septic system!
Seems like a good group to ask. Any plumbers out there?! Has anyone checked out the "Doggie Doo Drain"? It looks fairly simple and makes sense? I'm guessing it will screw into that mushroom in the yard that I try to hide in landscaping but am careful to NEVER disturb. Any thoughts on whether this might be a bad idea? Would be nice to get poo out of garbage cans but don't want to end up with a Sh__storm in the front yard! Thanks for the advice.
I wouldn't do it. Those things can back up fairly easily and I wouldn't want to block the line from our house to the city line for something like dog poop.
The Doggie Doo drains I've seen (one brand is called 'Doggy Dooley' if I recall correctly) are set up with a hole dug under them in the yard and use some sort of chemical to dissolve the poop so it can then leach out gradually.
You do not want anything other than air to get into the vent stack under the mushroom cap in your yard.
