I'm a 22 year old female video-journalist about to cross country to attend SU's motion media program. I haven't lived outside San Diego for over 8 years now and have never been to upstate New York. I'm looking for advice on a good area to live and where to begin looking for apartments while over 2000 miles away. I am somewhat of a city and would ideally like to not spend over 800 between rent and utilities combined. If you have any recommendations I would really appreciate it as my ignorance regarding the area is pretty extreme. Thank you...

Well, you're in for quite a shock. San Diego to Syracuse? What were you thinking?!?!?

On the positive side, you shouldn't have much problem finding a place to live in that range (although you may have some high utility bills in the winter for heating). Linking up with the local Syracuse newspaper website would be a good start to look through apt rentals. Try CraigsList too, I guess. Get in touch with Syracuse University's housing office (may have lists of people renting apts or looking for roommates).

my guess as to "girl what are you thinking"...is she is thinking she wants to go to Syracuse University, one of the finest educational instituions in the country. San Diego is nice but it's the same all year round weather wise...i realize some people like that, but i like a change in seasons I'd probably rather live in Syracuse than San Diego too....and I'm sure my bank account feels the same way.

Oh please....lets be so catty in our words....myself and the previous poster were just talking about culture shock..thats all....no doubt syracuse is a great university....no one is denying that. I was accepted to their masters program but pursued NYU instead...(company was helping pay)..

So lets not get all uppity.

To the original poster...good luck to you in your future endeavors.
