I'm starting to learn more about the various school districts. Sounds like Westhill is a pretty affluent area, somewhat small, but with a good student-teacher ratio. Would you agree? Also, how do you think areas like North Syracuse and Cicero/Clay compare to the school districts in JD and FM?
It looks like someone already bought the house listed.

Here are some current home listings in the Westhill SD: https://www.cnyrealtor.com/index.php...me.eq.Westhill)

As you can see, they can vary greatly in terms of price and the type of home you can get.

If you have to work within Syracuse, Westhill and J-D are adjacent to the city, while F-M is a second ring suburb. Many that work on University Hill live in the J-D SD. You get some that work in that area that live in the other 2 districts, especially F-M. Westhill would be great if you work at say the community college of SUNY Upstate’s Community General Hospital, as both are on Onondaga Hill.
One other thing is that there is actually a bus you could catch at the hospital or OCC to take to Downtown or to Destiny USA or even SU via a transfer once you get to Downtown. https://www.centro.org/docs/default-...e.pdf?sfvrsn=4

In the Westvale portion, which is south of where this route runs, you could take this bus: https://www.centro.org/docs/default-...s.pdf?sfvrsn=4

This route goes by parts of the district near the high school: https://www.centro.org/docs/default-...s.pdf?sfvrsn=6

Some may say that those 2, especially F-M may come off as being more pretentious, but even then it is relatively speaking. This may be due to it being the most affluent SD in the area by median household income. Then it goes J-D and Westhill in that regard.

J-D is and historically has been the more diverse of the 3(in multiple ways), even though the other 2 have become steadily more so over the years.

Due to tax base, property taxes in Westhill may be a little bit higher in comparison, but this can vary within each of these SD’s.

F-M offers the best opportunity for walkability due to having two villages that offer that. J-D has some near the DeWittshire/Orvilton neighborhoods around East Genesee Street, but that is pretty much it. Westhill is pretty much car centric, but has some very limited walkability on main roads in Onondaga Hill and around Parsons Drive in Westvale.

That is it for now, but if I think of anything else, I’ll post it.
Here’s an example of a home in/on Onondaga Hill with some walkability: https://www.cnyrealtor.com/index.php...SC&row=37&pos=

It right across the public library, has a Byrne Dairy next door, isn’t too far from the middle school or OCC(could be good for a rental house), St. Michael’s Catholic Church/Parish Center is a block away, there are a couple of restaurants and a market nearby, as well as a post office. For elementary and high schools, you would have to get bussed. There is a hospital down the road, with the same for a doctors office.

Shadybrook Plaza down Velasko Road has a Gannon’s Ice Cream Shop, Kelley’s Restaurant, a pizza shop and a couple of other businesses. Stack Veterinarian Hospital is across McDonald Road from the plaza next to the Mobil gas station. You are better off driving to these places though.

It is a smaller district with about 2000 students in the whole district and is named after WESTvale in the town of Geddes and Onondaga HILL in the town of Onondaga. There is some odd gerrymandering near the high school, as some neighborhoods nearby may be in the West Genesee SD or even a nice part of the city of Syracuse. A portion of Winkworth(town of Onondaga) nearby is in the district

It is close to shopping on West Genesee Street, as well as Destiny USA and Township 5 in Camillus.

What part of the district is this house located in?
I also forgot to mention that there is some shopping in the Western Lights Plaza area, which straddles the Syracuse/Geddes line around West Onondaga Street/Onondaga Boulevard. It has a Wegmans, with a Price Chopper across the street, some fast food and sit down restaurants, a Valu Hardware Store, a couple of Auto repair shops, an auto parts store, a Rite Aid, a Goodwill store, a mattress store, a dental office(or two) and more. There was a Herb Philipson’s, but it left a couple of years ago.

I go back to when the area had the Westhill Theater(movies), a Ponderosa Steakhouse, when DiBello’s was Lorenzo’s, the Wegmans was a Cooks, Chappell’s Department Store, the Poorhouse West bar, KMart was where Valu and Herb Philipson’s are/were and Price Chopper was a smaller store where PCX and Fallas are now left of Valu. Wendy’s was where Limp Lizard is now. Pale and Bucket used to be the Westwood Inn.

A home listing near that shopping area, as well as across Onondaga Boulevard from Westhill HS: https://www.cnyrealtor.com/index.php...SC&row=21&pos= It also isn’t too far from shopping on West Genesee Street(Westvale Plaza in Solvay and in the Fairmount/Camillus area)

Another thing is that the district is very close to the Rosamond Gifford(I still call it Burnet Park) Zoo on Syracuse West Side(Tipperary Hill neighborhood).

For youth sports, you still have WOYSA(Western Onondaga Youth Soccer Association), I believe Apple Valley Baseball/Softball(youth program that involves teams from Onondaga Hill, Nedrow, South Onondaga and the Valley neighborhood of Syracuse), Geddes Little League, Westvale Knights POP Warner Football, but some Onondaga Hill kids would go to Valley Little League or to the Valley Youth Hockey program. With the last 2, it is a quick drive down Seneca Turnpike to Meachem Field or it’s Ice Rink for those programs. Some may even play Valley Stallions Pop Warner Football as well or you may have Westvale kids that play in youth programs in Solvay or even the West Genesee/Camillus areas.

Also forgot that one of the DMV offices in the county is in the plaza on the side of the building of where Valu Hardware is located.

Some apartments in the district: https://www.apartmentfinder.com/New-...tments-vps0kdf

Some may know about the high school due to its very good Men’s Basketball program, which is a Class B state power(won public state title this year), along with other sports and its academics(was a Blue Ribbon School in 1993-1994 and has one of the highest grad rates in the area historically).

If anyone has questions about the district, don’t be afraid to ask.
