Right now the USA clearly has some issues on their back line. I don't think they'll be able to stay with good teams until that improves significantly. Their goalkeeping has been excellent though, as always, which has kept them competitive.
Both games were good. Watched the end of the 3rd place match between Honduras and Costa Rica before the US game and that was a pretty good game they went to penalties. I realize this was basically a glorified "friendly" but really all 4 games played in Denver this weekend were great.
USA vs Mexico is starting to turn into one of the great international rivalries in football. Our fans are always going to be outnumbered in the stands, but it doesn’t seem to affect the players on the pitch.
...and of course the Ticos played with a complete lack of intensity and got blown out. Oh well.
It was good to see the stands full of fans again. The USA team is a bit rough around the edges, but they have some exciting young players and should be fun to watch in the year ahead. They are certainly better ball handlers than they were a generation ago. There were few turnovers and the USA team appeared to dominate possession for much of the game.
