I've visited Sioux Falls many times. The people are friendly. The city is really clean and they have a lots of really nice parks and a great bike trail system. The zoo is nice too. I think it would be a good place to live. If there was anything bad, it would be the brutal winter weather and the few super hot days in the summer, but that really has nothing to do with the city really.

as someone whos about to leave Florida after 5yrs, where the dewpoint is never lower than 70s, even the so called wet Portland/Seattle area is never higher than 50s which is still the "comfort" zone, everything east of the rockies are the drier air till you get down near texas, or the east coast

SF is actually on the border between the arid West and the humid East. So, you typically get a few days of low humidity followed by a few days of higher humidity for May thru August. Dewpoints don't get into the 70's much when it is humid.
I have lived in some of the most humid places in the entire US, being, Miami, Baltimore, DC, in the middle of rice fields in NE Arkansas (which was a hell all of it's own along with all of it's mosquitoes that NEVER die) and Houston. I think Sioux Falls could be a welcome change. It's all relative!
As far as winter exercise, SF has three cross country ski trails within city limits. I have never seen an avid skier who was fat.

There's a million places to workout just like most cities. And they are open in the winter with a plethora of aerobic devices as well as weights. In fact, I lived in the SF Bay Area for 20 years and I'd say there's way more workout places in Sioux Falls per capita and they people in the Bay Area are just as overweight on average.
What I like is Sioux Falls has so many more great qualities than the Bay Area. I'll go back to visit and vacation in the Bay Area, but I'll enjoy living in a sane place.
I dunno. I moved to this area from MN, and it definitely feels much more humid here in the summertime than it did in either NE or SE MN. It would take a scientist to explain to me why this is the case, but it IS the case.
It's not so bad when it is breezy though, and one thing SD definitely has is breeze!

One big item that elevates the dewpoint and ambient relative humidity of an area during Summer is the evapotranspiration of moisture from crops. One of the highest dewpoint values ever observed in the US was over a corn field in Iowa.
It does get really swampy here at times in the summer. Usually when there has been sufficient rain and then we get a heat wave it can be horrible.
The gym situation IS terrible. If you can go during an off hour you might be ok. Some of the better facilities are horribly overcrowded during certain times to the point you can't find open equipment or space in class. I have dumped two gyms because it was impossible to use the facilities even during the weekday. These were both the big multi-use facilities rather than storefront gyms.

Ok, I can't let this go. In my experience the gym situation is definitely not horrible. I moved here a year ago and tried out many gyms. The one I go to now is never crowded, nor was a few others. I think you just don't like Sioux Falls--period. Maybe your problem is with the multi-use facilities. I lived in California for 35 years and talk about crowded fitness places!!! I could never find any that weren't crowded!!
