Orchid, where are you moving from? We are actually life long southern Californians, relocated to NorCal after hubby retired in 2004..a couple of dumb moves later, we are heading back. Now you would think we would head home to SoCal..but no, we feel like NorCal is home to us.

We are in escrow on a home in Lincoln, hoping to close in the next couple weeks..it's a short sale, who knows...but we did get in escrow, so hopefully soon. We are in WA state right now..

Have a great evening..

Hi Dogmom,

We are from Chicago. Tired of the area and the cold -- the whole family is thinking of moving (siblings, parents) which seems crazy but there's nothing like family, right?! I really like the Sacramento area so far. The whole family is here (except one sibling living in SoCal) but we can't afford the prices down there and Sac just seems to be more "midwestern." I love all the parks and trees and the home prices don't seem quite so outlandish as SoCal! How are the schools? My husband works in a school district so that is important.

I hope your move goes well - glad to hear you like the area so much you're moving back!

G'night!

Oh - what is the Lincoln area like? We're liking Roseville, Folsom so far but I don't think Lincoln is too far away, right? I'm not sure what area you're moving to but my parents are retired and looking at an affordable 55+ community. Are you familiar with any good ones in the area? You are probably not buying a house in one of those communities but just in case, I thought I'd ask! Dell Webb looks nice but the association fees seem really high -- Eskaton Lodge also looks nice. Thanks for any info! I can't seem to find a lot of homes for sale in those areas. Hmm...guess I'll have to get in touch with a realtor. This move is still a ways away and we are still looking at areas (and would have to visit first of course) but so far, I can't find any negatives.

Hi Orchid, Del Webb has a couple of age restricted communities, and yes we could live in one, we are age restricted, lol..not our thing, though. There is Sun City Lincoln, and Sun City Roseville. Not sure of the fees, might check their website. You might also do a search for those communities and see if there are any bulletin boards or forums you can hop onto.

Definitely you need to visit and spend some time..that is a huge move. I will tell you what we like about the Sac area.

There are seasons...not the seasons you get in the midwest, but definite seasons..

close to Reno/Tahoe and the SF Bay area, 2 hours either direction..also meaning coast or mountains either way..

Wine country, need I say more..

Placer County mandarins....YUM

Any shopping, restaurants you would want..

Lincoln is 10 miles north of Roseville, take hwy 65. Lincoln is an old, old town, used to call it Stinkin Linkin...not sure why, nothing stinks there now, but even 20 years ago it was a hole in the wall. Well now there are tons of newer homes, it's close to the 'big city' but not the big city. Lots of shopping and dining there, but close to Roseville and Rocklin, too. It gets hot in the summer, the whole central valley does, but most nights you can open the windows and get a cooling breeze.

Anyway, hope that helps..
Barb

If you have any questions or when you come out let me know..we can get together..

Thank you, Barb!

That is really sweet to offer to meet up -- I'll keep that in mind. I appreciate all the great info. This would definitely be a big move and I know I would miss Chicago but we're so ready for a change.

I will keep in touch and I'm sure you'll see me on this board a lot! Thanks again.

I have been in contact with Mr Zwahlen, and he has been kind enough to allow me to provide a link to pictures he has taken in and around Sacramento. I think you will find his work rather extensive and remarkable, and I want to thank him for providing permission to link to his images:

MMMMMMMMMM HOME.

I remember finding that link a while ago (not that one inparticular but the skyscaper one) about 3 or 4 years ago...and I cried and cried I missed Sacramento so much. SO happy to be home.
