Maybe they should fire all of the Americans and hire the illegals.
Have you been to a fast food place in an urban area lately? I'm pretty sure they've already done that. To say English is a second language in those places is being generous. Reality is it's 3rd or 4th language at best.
The federal minimum wage in the United States was set at $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009, and has not changed since.
Why people still expect OTHERS to work for $7.25, so they can buy a cheap burger??
My state uses the federal minimum wage but nobody pays it, they all pay much more. My teen son works at a supermarket and makes $15+, which is plenty for a teenager. I don't expect people to work for wages they do not find acceptable, and neither do the people in my state even though they didn't feel the need to vote for a government that would enact a prohibitively high minimum wage.
^^^^^^This. It's terrible, bad for you and often prepared by those that don't care about hygiene. I haven't eaten fast food in over six years. Now, I can't even stand the thought of it.
May be true but it's also irrelevant to the topic at hand. There are lots of products I have no use for, I don't think the government should meddle with wages to force those products to be unaffordable.
As a kid, my local McDs had 4 to 6 cashiers at lunch and supper, plus at least 10 more staff at each peak hour. Now they seldom have more than 5 grand total at peak hours.
Wal Marts twenty years ago would open with 400 staff. I doubt they are 40% of that today.
Anyone here work at Taco Bell in their past. Co-worker told me the meat comes in a bag looks like liquid put the bag in boiling water for awhile then it's put in cold water the meat appears in the bag. Wonder if it comes from rendering plants boil down what's left after meat is processed.
Or you can bring your own lunch. I do . Sandwiches, soups, salads, fruit, you name it. And you know how it was prepared and the ingredients that go into it. And the technology for lunch bags and thermoses have gotten better and do a good job keeping food hot or cold.

I did for 15 years.
I was so taxed as a construction engineer, I just didn't have the energy to make lunch before hand and often ate out for dinner as well. As a result of that 10 years, I lost my habit of making a bag lunch.
It is easy to say "just do it" but it is not always easily done, especially in an era where there was so much quantity and variety of options for eating out at lunch time, at a reasonable cost. It saved me a lot of precious time.
Fast-food prices have shot up over the last decade, according to FinanceBuzz. The personal finance site found that the price of a McDonald's Quarter Pounder with Cheese meal from McDonald's more than doubled in price from $5.39 in 2014 to $11.99 this year.
Coincidentally, stock dividends doubled over the same period.

2/29/2024 - $1.67
As did CEO salary
2013 - $9.5M
2023 - $19.2M
