Thinking about moving to rome from nyc.me my wife and my 15 month old son.im a doorman here in the city and my wife is a secretary.i have a lot of family in rome with good employment connections but im still scared of a major change like this but the rent here in the city is killing me.anyone have any advice
Go for it. Rome is a pretty safe city and would be a good environment for your family. You have the employment connections. So, the hardest part is out of the way. Schools are probably important to you and the schools up here are good. While it might not be as exciting as NYC, there still is enough up here to make the most of it.
Also, there are other communities you could check out that are still close to Rome like the Syracuse area or the Utica part of the area too.
Rome is in a wonderful historic area as well. Lots of Revolutionary War and 19th century American history. And you're right on the doorstep of the Adirondacks.
Since this still gets views and didn't want to start a new thread, this is a good place to add information about the city/immediate area. Here is an article about a new cafe in Downtown Rome: https://theurbanphoenix.com/2018/11/09/copperccinos/
