A Basketball reference from Bishop Timon heading to a Division 1 program: https://twitter.com/jaidenharrisonn/...835607/photo/2 (their head coach is an Olean native and this is an example of a player having a relationship with another coach as well)
more on this, Bishop Timon's Jaiden Harrison takes advantage of NIL, accepts Arkansas State offer as preferred walk-on: https://buffalonews.com/sports/high-...1f764bb89.html
From the article: "Typically, being a preferred walk-on means that player would need to take out loans to pay for school. That was until the era of name, image and likeness, commonly known as NIL. A rule adopted by the NCAA in 2021 allows student-athletes to gain income. In Harrison’s case, his NIL with Valmar Merchant Services will pay for his tuition.
“With them having 14 players on scholarship, I wasn’t able to be on scholarship due to NCAA rules,†Harrison said. “The next year when I’m on scholarship, we’ll see what happens with the NIL from there, but they made sure I attended school for free, and signing an NIL was a great move.â€
With Harrison now knowing where he will attend college, he’s hopeful other aspiring athletes in Western New York stick to their journey and don’t compare themselves with him or others. He believes everyone has a different path to similar goals.
“Focus on you, trust your guy, and all comparison is the thief of joy,†Harrison said. “Don’t compare yourself to people you’re better than or people who are maybe in the position you want to be in. Just trust yourself and keep grinding. The game has a beautiful way of giving back, so keep your love to the game true and everything will work out.â€
Sister Maria Pares Buffalo News Player of the Year: Madison Francis goes from cartwheels to 5-star recruit(from Lancaster): https://buffalonews.com/sports/high-...bcf7424d2.html https://bloximages.chicago2.vip.town...size=990%2C660 (also plays Volleyball) https://twitter.com/Madison28185042
More: "Madison, a Lancaster junior, has grown to become a 6-foot-1 wing player and is coming off a season in which she led the Legends to their first state semifinals after averaging 28.8 points, 13.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 6 steals and 3.2 blocks per game. Her domination on the court coupled with the team’s success is why Francis is the 2023-24 Sister Maria Pares Buffalo News Player of the Year.
Francis is the first Legends player to win the award since Katie Healy in 2012. Francis will enter next season 268 points shy of 2,000 for her career and 12 rebounds away from 1,000."
Also: "She’s a five-star recruit and the No. 23-ranked player in ESPN’s HoopGurlz girls basketball rankings for the class of 2025. Francis has offers from Syracuse, UCLA, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Indiana and others. Syracuse coach Felisha Legette-Jack was in attendance for Lancaster’s state semifinal game at Hudson Valley Community College.
Coaches want Francis, the No. 1-ranked player in the state for her class, per ESPN, to attend their school. It’s handling all of the attention that she and her family are trying to balance. To maintain some form of normalcy, her parents handle her recruiting, and a schedule is in place so nobody in the family feels overwhelmed."
"An administrator from the Rush-Henrietta Central School District will take over as the next superintendent of the Rome City School District sometime around July 1.
Nerlande Anselme, the assistant superintendent of student and family services in the Rush-Henrietta district since 2013, has been appointed to the position, the Rome school board announced Monday.
“The board was impressed with the breadth of experience she has had in Rush-Henrietta and with the work she has done in critical areas like school safety, mental health and special education,†board President Cassie Knutti said in a statement. “We found her to be a compassionate, collaborative and strategic leader, and we are excited to have her join and lead the district.â€
Anselme’s exact start date will be determined once her contract has been negotiated and the board formally appoints her.
About Anselme
“I believe that all students can achieve, and I place a strong emphasis on dismantling barriers that often hinder student potential,†Anselme said in the announcement statement. “I enjoyed my time in Rome as part of the search process and I am eager to further develop those relationships to support students, staff, parents, and community members. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.â€
In the Rush-Henrietta district, Anselme oversaw district and school safety, student registration, special education, nursing services, mental health and wellness, English as a New Language programming, student discipline protocols, equity and inclusion, and social-emotional learning.
Students in the district learned English at the expected rate or faster following implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports framework overseen by Anselme, officials said.
The Rush-Henrietta school district has nine schools with 5,400 students and 1,300 employees.
Scott Budelmann, district superintendent and CEO of Madison-Oneida BOCES, led a six-month search process, including meetings with employees and community stakeholders, to find a new superintendent.
The district has been led by interim Superintendent Michael Hoose, the former superintendent of the Cortland Central School District, since Oct. 2 when he took over from former Superintendent Peter Blake.
The school board had announced last year that they would not, through mutual agreement officials said, renew the Blake’s contract, which ran until this month. The board voted last September to accept a separation agreement with Blake, who became superintendent in 2016, and to hire Hoose.
The other finalist for the superintendent position was Terry Ward, superintendent of the Cato-Meridian Central School District.
Anselme previously served as executive director of student and family services in Rush-Henrietta from 2010 to 2013. And she worked as a school counselor and coordinator of student support services for nine years in the Gates Chili Central School District.
She holds a B.A. in anthropology and an M.S. in college and agency counseling as well as two certificates of advanced study, one in school counseling from SUNY Plattsburgh and one in educational administration from SUNY Brockport.
Anselme, who has a teenage son, is a member of The Forum for Educational Leadership, Education Research & Development Institute, Women Leading Ed, and the New York Association of Black School Educators. She received the Phenomenal Women Award from the New York State Association for Women in Administration in 2023, an award given to those who provide inspiration for the education leadership field and change the education landscape."
